2024 NBA Mock Draft 5.0: Spurs find point guard, Raptors keep lottery selection

22. New Orleans Pelicans (via Bucks) grab Yves Missi
The Pelicans declined the Lakers' selection in this mock in hopes of getting a higher selection in 2025. They will also swap picks with the Bucks to land at 22nd overall. Jonas Valanciunas is headed toward free agency, and the Pelicans may target his replacement here.
Missi may not be ready as a rookie, but the 20-year-old is oozing potential. He averaged 10.7 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks in 22.9 minutes per game during his freshman season at Baylor. The seven-footer is a traditional big man. He will not space the floor or handle the ball, but scouts are intrigued by his defense.
Missi has shown the potential to defend a bit on the perimeter and protect the rim. If he can hold his own in the pick and roll, it raises his ceiling significantly. Missi has a reported 7’5 wingspan but must improve his verticality and locking down the paint.
The Pelicans would have to develop him. Yves Missi would be best as a third-string center as a rookie. He needs time to add strength and round out his game, but there is starter upside. Some team will fall in love with his ceiling and select him in the first round.
