2024 NBA Mock Draft 4.0: Spurs get 2 game-changers, Wizards land potential star at 1

30. Boston Celtics select DaRon Holmes
The Celtics are projected to be over the second tax apron and must nail this selection. They could go for another ball-handler or wing, but Boston should be searching for a young big man to replace Al Horford. He turns 38 in June and is in his 17th NBA season. Horford is still productive, but Father Time is undefeated. Getting a young big man who can learn under him for a few years would be wise.
Holmes has taken his game to another level in his third season at Dayton. The 6’10 big man is making 1.0 3-pointer per game and shooting 38.5 percent from long range. He has all the tools teams want in a big man. Holmes is a strong rim protector, rebounder, roll man, and playmaker. The Celtics would love to add that versatility to their roster. He can play behind Kristaps Porzingis and Al Horford before taking over after the latter retires.
There are concerns about his size. Holmes is listed at 6’10 and 220 pounds, but he needs to add mass to guard the biggest centers in the NBA. His athletic ability and versatile skill set should help him carve out a role, but DaRon Holmes must improve if he wants to play starter’s minutes.
The 2024 NBA Draft will be full of twists and turns. Strong play in the NCAA Tournament could help multiple players vault up draft boards, so be sure to tune in to March Madness. One of those standouts could be a future Spur.
