2024 NBA Mock Draft 6.0: Spurs attack needs, Hornets make shock selection
By Tyler Watts
25. New York Knicks take DaRon Holmes
New York will be searching for a backup big man if Isaiah Hartenstein leaves in free agency. Holmes is already 21 years old and just had a breakout junior season at Dayton. He averaged 20.4 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 2.1 blocks in 32.6 minutes per game.
Teams are intrigued by his defense and playmaking. It could pop even more under Tom Thibodeau in New York. Holmes can play behind Mitchell Robinson to start his career but may work his way into more minutes as he reaches his peak.
26. Washington Wizards (via Clippers) draft Tyler Smith
The Wizards should be shooting for upside in the early stages of their rebuild. Smith was the only top prospect on the G League Ignite who improved their draft stock. He played limited minutes, but scored 14.3 points per game and shot 35.2 percent from 3-point range.
Can Washington help the 6’9 forward continue to grow? He spaces the floor and has a strong offensive game. The Wizards should be searching for pieces, and Smith could certainly blossom into a versatile option with upside.
27. Minnesota Timberwolves grab Jaylon Tyson
Spending concerns are real in Minnesota. Depending on who owns the team, the Timberwolves may be forced to trim payroll. The Timberwolves just reached the conference finals and should be looking to draft someone capable of filling a bench role quickly.
The 6’7 wing played for three different schools in three years. He is a 3-and-D wing with upside. Minnesota has done well at developing young talent and should look to add Tyson as a reserve option who could grow into a starter in his prime.
