19. Toronto Raptors (via Pacers) choose Tristan da Silva
The Raptors certainly have a type. They love rangy wings with versatility and have a desperate need to add shooting to their roster. Toronto retooled their roster around Scottie Barnes before the deadline and could be looking for an older player to help them quickly get back in the playoff mix.
Tristan da Silva played four years at Colorado and was a career 38.6 percent 3-point shooter. The 6’8 wing displayed defensive versatility, playmaking, and strong rebounding numbers for a wing. He should be able to jump into the rotation quickly and could be a solid role player for the next decade-plus.
20. Cleveland Cavaliers select Bub Carrington
Carrington kept improving throughout his lone season at Pitt. The 6’4 guard showcased playmaking, shooting, and defense that could make him a lottery pick. Some scouts will question if they should buy into the small sample, but Carrington could be a key starter and difference-maker in the NBA if he can keep improving.
The Cavaliers face an uncertain offseason. Does Donovan Mitchell agree to a long-term contract? Do they keep their core four together or try to improve their roster’s fit? Adding a versatile option capable of filling in as their backup point guard from day one seems wise given the team’s question marks.
21. New Orleans Pelicans (via Bucks) draft Zach Edey
Edey was the unanimous Player of the Year in college basketball for two straight seasons, but there are questions about how much the 7’4 big man can translate his game to the NBA. Is Edey just too big? He dominated the paint for Purdue and showed some playmaking chops. Can the 22-year-old find a role in the NBA?
The Pelicans have a need at the five and a dynamic athlete in Zion Williamson at the four. He could make up for some of Edey’s struggles. New Orleans could also run some devastating pick-and-rolls with their two big men. Zach Edey has plenty of skill and is eager to prove he can immediately make plays at the next level.
