11. Chicago Bulls draft Devin Carter
Carter had a breakout junior season at Providence and has continued to climb boards in the pre-draft process. He averaged 19.7 points, 8.7 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 1.8 steals, and 1.0 block in 35.3 minutes per game while shooting 47.3 percent from the field and 37.7 percent on his threes.
There is plenty of like about the son of 13-year NBA veteran Anthony Carter. The 6’3 guard is a stout defender capable of locking down on the perimeter. He creates turnovers and blocks shots, despite his size. Teams are intrigued by his defense, but it was his shooting improvements that pushed him into lottery consideration. He shot just 28.8 percent from 3-point range over his first two college seasons, which limited his potential.
The 22-year-old should be ready to play a role in the NBA immediately but does not have star upside. His unique skill set is intriguing for several teams. Adding a stout defensive guard who rebounds well and can operate as a secondary playmaker is enticing. Getting someone to play a role for a decade-plus is a win in the late lottery.
The Chicago Bulls need a point guard and have several roster questions to answer this offseason. Devin Carter offers an instant boost and can play with any group if his 3-point shooting improvements stick. Expect to hear his name called in the lottery, and the Bulls may take a chance.
