2024 NBA Mock Draft 3.0: Spurs solve PG woes, Pistons go upside at 1
By Tyler Watts
3. Washington Wizards draft Nikola Topic
The Wizards are just starting a rebuild and may not have a player on their roster who is part of their next playoff team other than Bilal Coulibaly. Tyus Jones is best suited as a backup point guard, and Jordan Poole has not blossomed as a number one option. The Wizards need someone who can run their show and get their offense rolling.
Topic has been arguably the best draft prospect this season. The 18-year-old is starting for KK Mega Bemax and averaging 18.5 points, 6.3 assists, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.1 steals in 33.2 minutes per game. He is shooting 51.0 percent from the field and 86.8 percent on his free throws through 15 games.
Topic is in his fourth professional season and knows how to run an offense. He is one the best playmakers in this draft class and would likely be the top selection if not for his defensive and 3-point shooting questions. Topic commits 3.5 fouls per game and struggles mightily to defend on the perimeter, despite being 6’6 and 200 pounds.
The Wizards could immediately insert Nikola Topic as their starting point guard and let him lead their rebuild. His shot creation will help Coulibaly and Washington’s other young talent get better looks. The Serbian teenager could blossom into a star and is in the running to go number one overall in this draft.
