The 18-year-old Spanish forward is already decorated in international competitions. He was MVP of the Under-19 and Under-17 World Cup in each of the last two years. Spain won the Under-19 version in 2023 and took silver in the U-17’s in 2022. Almansa’s year with the G League Ignite did not go as planned, but their roster was ill-fitting and it dinged nearly every player’s draft stock.
He averaged 11.7 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 0.7 steals in 27.6 minutes per game. The Ignite lacked a point guard to set the table, but Almansa has displayed a versatile skill set with Spain. Gregg Popovich and the Spurs will draft whoever they believe in. The teenager’s success with his national team could convince San Antonio to take a chance in the second round. Almansa needs time to develop, but there is no place to do it better than with the Spurs.
49. Pacers (via Cavaliers) grab Harrison Ingram
50. Pacers (via Pelicans) take K.J. Simpson
