8. Live bat stops play -- Manu literally takes matters into his own hands
I may have already covered this moment in my list of Manu's funniest moments, but considering what happened, I think it's warranted to talk about it twice.
On Halloween night in 2009, the Spurs were hosting the Sacramento Kings in the third game of their season. For some reason, the AT&T Center would often be visited by a wild bat or two during events, but they'd usually take their normal place in the rafters. On this night, however, one was looking for trouble.
Interrupting play by flying around the court and startling some of the players, the bat got a little bit too close to Manu Ginobili, leading to the slap heard around the world.
Although the bat ended up ok, Manu regretted the incident because of the danger he put himself in. Still, it was quite an amazing moment.
7. Manu earns the NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award in 2008
The fact that Manu Ginobili sacrificed several All-Star appearances, millions of dollars, and much more by coming off the bench for Gregg Popovich tells you everything you need to know about his character. But when stars are bright enough, they're going to shine no matter what.
In 2008, Manu Ginobili came off the bench in 51 of the 73 games he played and averaged 19.5 points per game on 40.1% shooting from downtown. Naturally, he easily earned the NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award in a landslide that season.
Proving there always has to be "that one person", there was a single first-place vote for Leandro Barbosa to win the award that season, but the other 123 went to Manu. He's now widely regarded as the best sixth man the NBA has ever seen.
