The Wrong: Roster Loyalty

I wrote a couple of articles this year on the Spurs roster and ways the team could improve. I made the point that on a team with seven or eight players all deemed as "the future," while we were still trotting out for veterans in DeRozan, Aldridge, Rudy Gay, and Patty Mills, at some point it might be worth trading some young talent to get some other talent, especially at the rather stacked and congested wing positions.

But some fans were NOT having that, and honestly probably rightfully so. Maybe it truly is far too early to give up on any of those guys. Maybe the best course of action is to drop the older stars and let the younger generation playing no one older than Derrick White in a season long tryout. I honestly don't know.

But honestly, I come back to the concept that value requires value, and that Spurs fans need to come together to realize that they need to set their sights a little lower in terms of trade (and sign-and-trade) targets this free agency. This is especially true if the plan is to keep Dejounte, Derrick, Keldon Johnson, Devin, Jakob, Lonnie Walker IV, Luka Samanic, Tre Jones, and potentially the vets like DeMar, Rudy, and Patty ALL on the team. Or San Antonio can make a move if it nets them a worthwhile young asset.
