Fans make their selection for the Spurs at 25
The five prospects I gave fans the option to choose from were:
Patrick Baldwin Jr.
While some mocks have had Jovic being selected sooner and Koloko much later, there's enough of a margin for error in this class to justify all of these guys still being available at 25th. With that said, this one wasn't even particularly close. Here's how 28 of you voted in this one.
Christian Koloko - 1
Patrick Baldwin Jr. - 1
Jake LaRavia - 3
E.J. Liddell - 5
Nikola Jovic - 18 votes (64.2%)
Judging by your responses, many of you think Nikola Jovic will be long gone by the 25th pick, and you might have a good reason to believe so. Still, he's so raw defensively that there's a possibility he can drop further than many expect. As such, most of you had no problem taking him with the Spurs' last pick in the first round.
"He's probably gone by the 25th pick, but, if not, it's a gift from the Gods," wrote @guyncville. "6-10 or 6-11 and can handle the ball? Don't worry fans, he's not another Luka," said Project Spurs' Rocky Garza Jr.
Our own Jonah Kubicek echoed the sentiment that fans shouldn't be scared about another Luka Samanic situation happening. "At worst he's a solid backup forward, and at best he's an All-Star. Either way, he's a steal at 25," he stated.
Meanwhile, @jamesmatsa was one of five votes for 6-7 bully ball power forward, E.J. Liddell, saying he "provides a solid glue guy type player and fills a need at the four." It's hard to argue either point.
Out of these options, I once again have to agree with the majority here. There's a lot to admire about Nikola's raw talent, and I'd love to see the Spurs redeem themselves after their last international pick that became a bust.
For the 20th pick in the NBA Draft, I submitted these six names as options on the survey:
After the jump, I'll dive into how you voted.
