John Collins - PF, Atlanta Hawks
If you've been following our posts for any significant stretch this season, you know many of us have our eyes on John Collins. We've previously broken down the pros and cons of adding him, estimated how much it would cost to poach him from Atlanta, and even proposed trades for him during the season.
Quite frankly, Collins checks a lot of boxes that the Spurs need checked to have a successful offseason. They need size, rebounding, 3-point shooting, and youth, among other things. The 23-year-old, 6-9 power forward offers them all of those.
In Atlanta, he's had back-to-back seasons shooting 40 percent from downtown and above 55 percent from the field. He's also a 78 percent free throw shooter. Basically, if the Spurs are able to snag Collins, that already moves the needle greatly for San Antonio, who would still have money to make more moves.
Although the Hawks will undoubtedly want to bring John back, they might have to let him go if the Spurs offer him the max of $28 million per year, which I could see happening. For a franchise that's had its issues with being tied down by contracts in recent years, this one wouldn't be a mistake.
