Josh Primo is lighting up the G League and should light a fire under Lonnie
Shortly after the San Antonio Spurs dropped a game in Los Angeles, the Austin Spurs had a comeback win in their home debut. Leading the way was San Antonio's first-round NBA Draft pick Josh Primo, whose game was on full display in the victory.
Scoring 28 points on 9-of-17 shooting and 5-of-8 from three, Primo put on a dazzling show that included a strip-and-dunk, a 4-point play, and clutch plays to complete the comeback.
The odds are high that Primo will spend a decent amount of Austin's season developing with them, but I wouldn't say it's a foregone conclusion he'll remain there. As is custom under Gregg Popovich, Primo has been going back and forth between San Antonio and Austin to remain available if needed. That will probably continue for at least the next few weeks.
Primo seems to show us all something new each time he's on the court. Considering we're starting to get to a place where there's nothing to lose, many have already been arguing for Josh Primo to get real NBA minutes despite his youth, and I can't say I blame them.
There was a time San Antonio was clamoring for more minutes from Lonnie Walker as he began his career. The same is happening in San Antonio again.
Minutes after the Spurs' new white fiesta jerseys went on sale online, the jerseys of Joshua Primo and Devin Vassell were among the first three to initially sell out. That's very telling of what the fanbase wants, and even though Coach Popovich doesn't take fan voices into consideration, their play might just end up being too loud for him to ignore.
