Spurs answer to veteran leadership question may have presented itself

The San Antonio Spurs need a veteran on the roster and Jamal Crawford may have just volunteered for the role.

The San Antonio Spurs are no stranger to unorthodox methods. Sometimes, you have to find alternative routes to your destination as a small market team, and when you put Manu Ginobili on the floor for 16 years, you gain an appreciation for the abstract. The team would benefit from the addition of a veteran and they should be open to obtaining the services of one even if he doesn't play much, fortunately, one seems to be volunteering.

Jamal Crawford could add value to the Spurs

The Spurs will have plenty of guards to give minutes to, so Jamal Crawford would not need to play, but his experience would be a huge value to the youngest team in the league. Crawford played in the NBA for 20 years and operated like a hired gun for a significant portion of his career, wearing the jerseys of nine different teams. If you wanted instant offense, you called the Michigan Wolverine.

He has already established a good relationship with Victor Wembanyama, and from the interactions caught on camera between them, Victor clearly respects the former Atlanta Hawk. Crawford made the playoffs eight times and was a consistent contributor on those teams.

Whether the Spurs go this route or pick up a guy in free agency, hopefully, they address this need. Wembanyama expressed his desire for an experienced guy on the roster months ago but he's not the only one who needs the guidance. Players like Devin Vassell and Jeremy Sochan stand to gain a lot from somebody who has been around the block. A guy like Crawford (44 years old) would be cheap, wouldn't expect playing time, and bring immense value; it has to be considered.
