3. Luka Samanic will earn a spot in the rotation
Spurs forward Luka Samanic looks to be hard at work in preparation for his third season. And while he only played sparingly over his first two seasons, he'll have the opportunity to earn a bigger role in training camp. Additionally, If Young is indeed traded and Johnson starts at the four, San Antonio will have only Keita Bates-Diop and Samanic as traditional options to choose from at backup power forward.
Samanic has plenty of potential and him earning a spot in the rotation could go a long way toward him beginning to live up to it. However, Bates-Diop played well last season and his contract is already guaranteed for next season. This suggests that the Spurs liked what they saw from him and that he'll have a shot at a rotation spot.
Still, Samanic has a higher ceiling and, assuming he can knock down open threes, projects to be a better fit with the bench. As a result, I believe an improved Samanic will earn the backup power-forward role in training camp.
