The San Antonio Spurs have one of the most underrated starting lineups this season. Between a dynamic backcourt of Derrick White and Dejounte Murray and Jakob Poeltl being a constant double-double and block threat down low, the Spurs have a fighting chance at a surprise playoff opportunity.
While the Spurs have been playing better (despite some tough losses), they are by no means perfect. They are still a losing team and have some very clear voids to fill. Thaddeus Young is probably on the move sooner rather than later, and when Jakob Poeltl is on the bench, the Spurs suffer when Drew Eubanks is on the court. Keldon Johnson and Doug McDermott are both good forwards but lack the size needed to be elite defenders on the interior.
Expect the Spurs to make a big splash in free agency with their $30 million dollars to spend. Hopefully, they target a center to relieve Poeltl of some of his duties. With more cap space than almost anyone in the league, there’s no reason the Spurs can’t sign an established star and also take a flyer on a player who might just need a change of scenery to really get their career started.
Whether they obtain a star or not, the Spurs should still have their eyes peeled for some low-cost options to round out the roster. Here are four guys they should consider.
