This past season, San Antonio Spurs fans were able to witness a rookie get significant playing time for the first time in many years. It was evident that Coach Popovich greatly valued what Devin Vassell was able to bring to the floor for the Spurs, as he was the first Spur to play over 40 games as a rookie since Dejuan Blair in 2009.

On a Popovich-led Spurs team that seems to have no second thoughts about sending young players to Austin to develop their game, such a feat is very impressive.

Now that the 2021 NBA Draft is only a few weeks away, the Spurs will surely be looking for another player that fits the system and has the potential to become a star. A good bet for finding such a player in the draft will be to find a player whose potential can be maximized by Coach Pop. So, if he thinks that a particular player in the draft would be a good match for the team, it would probably be wise to take his word for it.

It takes a special kind of player to succeed in the Spurs' system. Many of those players have gone on to become high-level role-players, while others have become full-blown superstars. Overall, the Spurs have had a good track record of finding players with staying power. Finding players that work well with Coach Pop is surely part of the formula for that success.

Here, we'll briefly talk over three players in the upcoming draft that have the potential to fit well next to Coach Pop and what he would like about each player.
