3. The Spurs have no star player
Overall, the Spurs saw the effects of losing their most talented and impactful player from last season in a major way on opening night.
Throughout the first game of the season, it was apparent that the Spurs just don't have a star player right now. Keldon Johnson was their best player with 20 points and 11 rebounds, but he wasn't able to elevate his teammates enough to make it a competitive contest.
Or at least, that's what we thought after the first game. Since then, Keldon Johnson has emerged as an All-Star candidate, averaging more points on better shooting than other young stars like Jordan Poole, Zion Williamson, RJ Barrett, and Anthony Edwards.
On top of that, Devin Vassell has put up a historic streak. While I wouldn't call him a star yet, he is a great young player in the making.
Plus, Jakob Poeltl, Tre Jones, and Jeremy Sochan are all reliable starters in the league. After a slow and frankly embarrassing start to the season, the Spurs have shown that there's very little reason to worry moving forward.
