Small Forward - Devin Vassell

In the modern NBA, shooting guard and small forward are effectively the same position. They all get called “wing,” and Devin Vassell is the best wing on the roster. Last season, his efficiency went up on twice the amount of attempts, and he is quite possibly the second-best defender on the team, after Jakob Poeltl.

Devin Vassell has established himself as a solid starter, one of the best young players in the league, and an up-and-coming star

In a recent preseason game against the woeful Utah Jazz, Vassell had 24 points on 3/5 shooting from deep. He also took the Klay Thompson approach: never put the ball on the floor.

Personally, I think Vassell is a little clunky when he moves to the hoop. He keeps the ball either too close or too far from his body, resulting in turnovers or slower movements. So far this preseason, it looks like he’s perfecting the role of a spot-up shooter, but unlike Doug McDermott, he can play solid defense night in and night out.

This preseason, it looks like he's taken a bit of a leap in scoring, averaging 16 per night. That being said, his three-point percentage has plummeted to 27%, so hopefully he can get himself back on track when the real games start.
