4 Hidden Gems Spurs Can Find From Smaller Schools

Horizon League, Wright State: Grant Basile
The Wright State Raiders were seeded fourth heading into the Horizon League Tournament, but they came out on top. Grant Basile can claim a large part of their success, as he posted nearly 18 points and nine rebounds. An oversized small forward, he can bang around in the paint much like Keldon Johnson.
In the conference final against Cleveland State, he put up an insane 27 points on 10/15 shooting. It was his 15th game scoring 20 points and his fourth-best this season. He’s scored 29 points twice and dropped 37 back in November.
When Basile gets hot, he can go crazy. His playstyle is similar to Keldon Johnson, but don’t get it twisted. Basile could be the next Jeremy Lin.

Lin was not supposed to have an NBA career. He was a D-League guy through and through. Circumstances allowed him to get playing time, and he made the most of it. Grant Basile has shown he is an opportunist. Chances are it won’t work out, but if any organization can tap into his potential, it’s the San Antonio Spurs.
If the Lakers go crazy to end the season and the second-round pick falls to the later part of the round, I say Basile is worth a look. The potential and drive are there -- it’s just a high-risk game.
