2. The Spurs will need to waive two players before Oct. 19
With the Wieskamp signing, the team now has 19 players on the roster. That is allowed during the offseason, which includes training camp and the preseason, when a team is allowed 20 total players. But before the season begins on October 10th, two players will need to be waived.
Here's what the roster currently looks like:
Tre Jones (partial guarantee)
Keita Bates-Diop (non-guaranteed)
Alize Johnson (non-guaranteed)
Dominick Barlow (two-way)
Jordan Hall (two-way)
The two names in bold, Keita Bates-Diop and Alize Johnson, figure to be the two odd men out if all things remain the same since both are currently on non-guaranteed contracts. That could change, however, depending on how training camp goes.
Wieskamp's two-year deal also could be a sign that one of the veterans on the team could be on the move before this season's trade deadline, as several positions are starting to get awfully crowded. I'll jump into that next.
