The Chicago Bulls are on the clock, and with the 22nd pick in the Draft, they select Ohio State Junior EJ Liddell.
I don’t think this pick requires going into too much detail, but regardless, I would like this pick for Chicago. If I’m in the Bulls’ front office, I’m looking for a player that combines a good amount of NBA readiness with a high basketball IQ and consistent motor. If there is any player in this draft that fits that description, it’s EJ Liddell without a shred of doubt. In fact, I think there’s a chance he’s off the board somewhere as early as the late teens, but if he drops to 22, this should be an easy decision.
At roughly 6’7”, Liddell is one of the best shot blockers in the NCAA at his size, is an intelligent passer, and is shooting 38% from the three-point line. He’s a gritty small-ball 4/5 that is guaranteed to come in the game and make good plays on both ends of the floor and being that Chicago is officially in win-now mode, I can’t imagine why they wouldn’t want a player like Liddell at this point in the draft.
While he may not have the best size or be the most eye-popping athlete, his main selling points are his poised decision-making and high-effort plays.
