The Brooklyn Nets deferred their pick until the 2023 NBA Draft, meaning the 23rd overall pick will now be going to the Philadelphia 76ers. That being said, this is another pick that I expect to get traded, but for now, I have them selecting a fantastic offensive connector piece in Dalen Terry. The Arizona wing was an underrated component of Arizona’s successful regular season and tournament run this past season acting as a jack of all trades on both ends of the floor.
On offense, he’s a fantastic playmaker both in transition and in the halfcourt in Arizona’s motion offense, showed an improved jump shot, and has the length and athleticism to be a strong finisher above the rim. On defense, he’ll be able to use that length to guard both guard positions and most small forwards, but he also thrives as an off-ball defender that can quickly interrupt swing passes.
Generally, Terry is already one of the more versatile wing players in his class but has underrated long-term upside as well. Don’t be surprised if he goes off the board several picks before this.
An underrated deciding factor in this pick for the 76ers, though, would be Terry’s energy. While his production at Arizona may have been overshadowed by guys like Bennedict Mathurin and even Christian Koloko, Terry gave the team a sense of infectious energy that was key in helping the team win competitive games and get through dry spells. If the 76ers decide to keep this pick, it would be very well-spent on a player that can give that kind of a jump start to a team.
