2. Two-way tie: Grizzlies and Suns (6 losses)
It's safe to say Ja Morant has been a headache the Spurs haven't been able to shake since he entered the league. After the two teams split the season series in his rookie year, the Memphis Grizzlies dropped one game to the Spurs in December 2020 before taking six straight.
Last season, Morant was a human highlight reel on the way to a career-high 52 points against the Spurs. With Dejounte Murray now gone, frankly, I'm scared to find out what his encore could be.
Meanwhile, the Phoenix Suns have quietly notched six straight wins of their own over the Silver and Black. Last season, Devin Booker lit them up for 48 points on 18-of-33 shooting from the field.
Both of these streaks may be tough to snap given the state of the current team, but at least the Spurs will have four shots apiece at doing so.
1. Philadelphia 76ers (7 losses)
Speaking of players who've had their way with the Spurs, Joel Embiid is either at the top or very close to the top of that list. The superstar center has demolished San Antonio in just about every meeting and just put up 38 points and 12 boards in the last one.
Even when Embiid didn't play in a March 2021 matchup, the 76ers destroyed the Spurs by 34 points in Philadelphia. While the seven straight games Philly has won in the series have included both nail-biters and blowouts, it's clear San Antonio simply has no answer for the City of Brotherly Love.
Unfortunately, I can't see that changing in 2023. Still, the Spurs should at least be able to snap a few of these streaks with strong performances this season.
