The San Antonio Spurs won’t be the only shorthanded team in Monday evening’s battle of two of the league’s top eight teams. While we’re still awaiting word on who, if anyone, will be returning from health and safety protocols for San Antonio, Brooklyn will be without one and possibly two stars.

Looking to ensure superstar Kevin Durant’s hamstring can be 100 percent going forward, the Nets elected to sit him through the All-Star break as an extra precaution. It’s a smart move from an organization that suddenly has championship aspirations after forming the NBA’s latest power trio.

Meanwhile, Kyrie Irving sat out against the Mavericks on Saturday as part of his shoulder injury recovery. According to Alex Schiffer on Twitter, he’ll be available against the Spurs.

The AT&T Center is a comfortable arena for Irving, who enjoyed the best game of his career in the building while playing for the Cleveland Cavaliers. In that game in 2015, Irving shot a staggering 20-for-32 from the field, hit a buzzer-beating three to send the game into overtime, and posted a career-high 57 points in a Cavaliers win.

It will be the league’s most potent offense against an eighth-ranked Spurs defense when the Brooklyn Nets make their lone visit to the Alamo City. Here’s everything you need to know about the matchup.
