Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green will return to the AT&T Center to face the San Antonio Spurs midway through the season.

Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green left the San Antonio Spurs in an offseason trade to the Toronto Raptors, which returned DeMar DeRozan, Jakob Poeltl and a protected 2019 first-round pick. This ended the months-long saga between Leonard and the Spurs, starting with a mysterious quadriceps injury that occurred before the 2017-18 season started.

With the 2018-19 season not far away, fans awaited the release of the schedule and the first date Leonard and Green would return to the AT&T Center. So, on Friday, the Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports reported their comeback to San Antonio for Thursday, Jan. 3.

It’s obviously a big date on the NBA calendar, as Leonard makes his return to what should be a raucous AT&T Center. This likely-full venue will feature the first fan reactions to the would-be face of the franchise who wanted off the Spurs this summer.

Leonard made his first public comments since the trade Thursday. A penned letter that “thanked” everyone around the Spurs, and the fans, weeks afterward. This drew its fair share of reactions, so it’s reasonable to expect a split crowd on Jan. 3.

Green might receive a warmer reception, though, after his heartfelt “thank you” to the Spurs after the July trade. He spent eight seasons in San Antonio, including on the 2014 championship team.

The schedule goes far beyond this game, with DeRozan’s return to Toronto, games against the Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers, Houston Rockets and more. It should make for an interesting schedule as the Spurs take the floor for the 2018-19 season and strive for a high placement in the Western Conference. Though, everyone will watch for Leonard and Green’s return to San Antonio when 2019 kicks off.
