Moments after the 2018 NBA Finals ended, Dejounte Murray tweeted out a picture of LeBron James in a San Antonio Spurs uniform.

The 2018 NBA Finals are over which means it’s time for the offseason. It’s a busy slate for the San Antonio Spurs, with the 2018 NBA Draft less than two weeks away and free agency 10 days later. What they do remains to be seen, but some of the activity will at least surround Kawhi Leonard.

Well, with free agency the Spurs have seven players set to hit the open market. If they all depart it leaves open cap space and a myriad of questions; some of them might surround LeBron James, a potential free agent this summer, as he owns a player option for the 2018-19 season.

Where will go James go? According to Spurs guard Dejounte Murray’s post-Finals tweet, he wants it to be in the Alamo City:

Of course the real free-agent recruiting won’t happen on Twitter, but it’s just a friendly, near-tampering message that Murray wants James in San Antonio. Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid even tweeted his desire for the three-time champion to “find a new slant.”

As for Murray, he has an off-the-court friendship with James, which developed upon entry into the NBA in 2016. The two-year guard even attended Game 3 of the NBA Finals and sat behind the Cavaliers bench. Does that mean anything towards free agency? Maybe not, but it’s a footnote in this potential offseason saga.

It remains to be seen if the Spurs will actually recruit James this offseason, as there has been no indication of anything. With the Finals over, though, speculation will run rampant in every direction, whether it’s with Cleveland, San Antonio or other potential suitors.
