15. Vernon Maxwell
Veron Maxwell is mostly known for his role on the top-end Houston Rockets teams of the 1990’s. He won the 1993-94 and 1994-95 NBA championships while providing hard-nosed play and steady scoring contributions from the shooting guard spot.
Maxwell lasted in the NBA for over a decade and played for eight teams. Along with the Rockets, this included the Philadelphia 76ers, Orlando Magic, Charlotte Hornets, Sacramento Kings, Seattle SuperSonics, and the Dallas Mavericks. He had two stints with two teams, however, one of which was the San Antonio Spurs.
The Spurs were the first team Maxwell played for. He joined them for the 1988-89 season and started 36 games, averaging 11.7 points. Playing time was reduced for him in the 1989-90 season, so San Antonio sold his rights to the Rockets in the middle of the year.
Six years later, after leaving the 76ers, Maxwell rejoined the Spurs. It was for the tumultuous 1996-97 season, however, which saw David Robinson get hurt and the team have one of the NBA’s worst records. So, Maxwell’s 12.9 points got lost in the shuffle of a down year.
That was the first and last season of the Florida product’s second stint in San Antonio. He bounced from team to team for the rest of his career.
