Jerry West, in an interview with NBA TV’s Gametime prior to the start of Game 2 of the NBA Finals, stated that the Spurs’ Kawhi Leonard reminds him a little of himself.
“The Logo” joined NBA TV’s Gametime crew on an in-depth interview ranging from different topics, about Muhammad Ali to how Stephen Curry would fare during previous times in the NBA to where West gushes over a certain Spurs star.
Kenny Smith, who watched film of West growing up and was able to see his style of play, asked him who he thought in today’s game was the Jerry West. His response may have people questioning but others agreeing.
“You know who I really like as a player, I love him as a player Kawhi Leonard. No nonsense, he plays on both ends of the court. He just competes. I love players like that”.
Leonard has catapulted to an absolute star in the NBA. His ability to play on both ends of the floor is not going unnoticed. He helped lead the San Antonio Spurs to the best record in franchise history with a 67-15 record. He also was named Defensive Player of the Year for the second-straight season and finished second in the MVP voting behind Curry.
If that wasn’t enough, he was also selected to his first All-Star Game, where he was voted a starter. The sky’s the limit for Leonard. He not only is getting praise from “The Logo,” but everyone in the league knows they are in for a fight when Leonard is defending them.
