San Antonio Spurs vs. Golden State Warriors: Prediction and Keys

By George Middleton

The San Antonio Spurs (38-6) hit the road to take on the Golden State Warriors (40-4) for a Monday night matchup at the Oracle Arena. Golden State is 20-0 at home this season. The game is scheduled to tip-off at 10:30pm ET and will be televised on NBATV.

On Jan. 22, the Spurs beat the Lakers 108-95. Manu Ginobili led the Spurs with 20 points and five steals. Kawhi Leonard finished with 18 points.

The Warriors are coming off a 122-110 win against the Indiana Pacers on Friday night. Stephen Curry led Golden State with 39 points, 12 assists, and 10 rebounds.

San Antonio is looking to extend their 13-game winning streak. The Spurs are 14-6 on the road this season.

What are the keys to a San Antonio Spurs victory against Golden State?

-Slow the game down

The last thing the Spurs want to do is trade baskets with the Warriors. This matchup features the best defense and the best offense. San Antonio is first in scoring defense allowing 89.8 points. Golden State is first in scoring as they average 114.7 points. If Golden State plays their pace they will likely win.

-Feed Aldridge and Duncan

If there’s an edge the Spurs have it’s surely in the frontcourt. Tim Duncan and LaMarcus Aldridge are too talented to not impact this game heavily. Aldridge will likely be defended by standout Draymond Green, but he’s only 6’7. Feed the bigs.

Tony Parker must show up

The Spurs don’t need a vintage Tony Parker performance, they need the 33-year-old to be solid. Defensively is where the Spurs need Parker to step up. He is going up against Stephen Curry who leads the league in scoring averaging 30.1 points. Draymond Green and Kawhi Leonard must be aware of Klay Thompson who is as deadly.

104. 41. 98. 29.

The Golden State Warriors are basically unbeatable at home. This game will surely be a battle but at the end of the night Thompson and Curry will make some big baskets for Golden State.
