The San Antonio Spurs (30-6) host the Utah Jazz (15-18) for a Wednesday night matchup at the AT&T Center. The game is scheduled to tip-off at 8:30pm ET and will be televised on FSSW. LaMarcus Aldridge (rest) and Tony Parker (hip) will miss Wednesday night’s contest.
On Dec. 14 the Spurs beat the Jazz 118-81. Kawhi Leonard led the Spurs with 22 points and seven rebounds.
The San Antonio Spurs are coming off a 123-98 win against the Milwaukee Bucks on Monday night. Leonard led the Spurs with 24 points on 9-of-12 from the field.
San Antonio is looking to extend their five-game winning streak. The Spurs are 20-0 at home this season.
What are the keys to a San Antonio Spurs victory against Utah?
-Feed Tim Duncan
Aldridge is out this means that the Spurs must feed Tim Duncan. Utah might not have Derrick Favors and they are already without Rudy Gobert. There’s no way that Jeff Withey and Trevor Booker can contain Duncan.
–Gordon Hayward vs. Kawhi Leonard
Gordon Hayward began the season slowly but things have changed in the last few weeks. In the last 10 games, he is averaging 20.1 points and 6.1 rebounds. It will be interesting to see how Leonard matches up with the rising star. In the first matchup, Hayward finished with four points on 1-of-5 shooting.
The key will be the play of Boris Diaw, Jonathon Simmons, and Manu Ginobili. David West and Patty Mills will likely start with Aldridge and Parker out. Utah is shorthanded with Alec Burks, Gobert, and Favors out but they still have some capable bench guys. Trey Burke is averaging 12 points and 2.7 assists off the Jazz bench.
Utah will have a difficult time scoring without Favors and their defense will take a hit without Gobert in the lineup. San Antonio won’t have Aldridge and Parker but I expect Leonard and Duncan to have big games.
