Brooklyn Nets vs. San Antonio Spurs: Keys to Game and Prediction

By George Middleton

The San Antonio Spurs will look to bounce back from a 112-106 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder, when they take on the Brooklyn Nets. Kawhi Leonard finished with a career high 32 points in the loss, and he also grabbed eight rebounds.

The Brooklyn Nets are coming off a 115-100 loss to the Chicago Bulls. Center Brook Lopez finished with 26 points and seven rebounds for the Nets.

What are some keys for a Spurs win?

LaMarcus Aldridge must be aggressive

Many Spurs fans believed LaMarcus Aldridge will have a big Spurs debut against the Thunder in a nationally televised game. That didn’t happen, instead Aldridge finished with 11 points on 4-for-12 shooting. Yes, 12 field goal attempts is a respectable amount, but it’s not enough for a borderline superstar.

If the Spurs want to be elite, Aldridge will have to put up some respectable numbers. It starts against Brooklyn.

Contain Brook Lopez

There is no doubt that Brook Lopez is the best scoring option for the Nets. Thaddeus Young is too inconsistent, and Joe Johnson is past his prime. Lopez is capable of scoring 25 points on any given night. If the Spurs want to win this game comfortably, they can’t let Lopez torch them. Last season the Spurs shut Lopez down completely. The 27-year-old averaged 11 points on 36 percent shooting against the Spurs.

Play Defense!

This one is obvious. The Spurs must play better defense. Yes, it has only been one game, but they allowed 112 points. San Antonio let the Thunder shoot 49 percent from the field. One positive from the game on defense is that the Spurs forced 19 turnovers in the game.

29. 94. 147. . 106

The Spurs are better in nearly every area. The only edge the Nets might have is with Lopez, since Tim Duncan only plays about half the game. This one should get ugly early on as Aldridge will have a big game.
