Early on the Spurs jumped to a 21-13 lead after the first quarter and they hung on until a dominant third quarter by the Nets. The Nets outscored the Spurs 24-14 in the third quarter to take a two point lead over the Spurs into the fourth.
Anderson led the Spurs with 10 points in the final quarter to give the Spurs a tight three point victory.
Newly signed Jonathon Simmons was the x-factor of the game, as he went for 18 points on 7-11 shooting off the bench. Cady Lalanne and Jarrell Eddie added 8 points apiece.
Anderson has now scored at least 19 points in 5 of the last 6 summer league games. It appears that Anderson is heading for an important bench role on an extremely talented Spurs team.
Markel Brown was the Nets lone bright spot, as he finished with 17 points in 22 minutes. His three with two seconds would’ve tied the game, but he missed left.
The Spurs will take on the winner of the Portland-Boston game on Saturday afternoon. The Nets take on the NBA D-League team on Friday night.
