San Antonio Spurs 2nd Round Draft Prospect: Anthony Brown

By George Middleton

Anthony Brown: 22-years old, Stanford, Small Forward/Shooting Guard

Draft Express Measurements: 6″8.5, 6″11.25 wingspan, 211-pounds

2014-15 Stats: 14.8 points, 6.9 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 0.2 blocks, 0.8 steals, 43% field goals, 80% free-throws, 44% threes, 35.7 minutes

Quick Season Review: The Stanford Cardinals (24-13) regular season ended in disappointment as they barely missed the NCAA Tournament. It wasn’t all bad, as they went to the National Invitational Tournament and won it all. The Cardinals beat the Miami Hurricanes 66-64 in overtime. Brown averaged 15.2 points and 6.2 rebounds in the five NIT games. His best game of the season came against Vanderbilt in the quarterfinal of the NIT. Brown finished with 26 points and 8 rebounds. He also had 25 points in a win versus Texas on December 23, 2014.

Strengths: Terrific shooter. Excellent size and good wingspan. Good rebounder. Versatile, as he can defend both wing spots. Good defender. High IQ.

Weaknesses: Average athlete (34.5-inch vertical). Must improve efficiency around basket. Must add weight. Doesn’t block any shots, despite having good size. Must improve at forcing turnovers. Can improve shot selection at times. Age.

Where He Would Help Spurs?

Anthony Brown is a terrific shooter with excellent size. He is also a good defender, who will certainly be a good player to take on a Danny Green role off the bench. The only question is whether he will be there that late in the draft.

NBA Comparison: Danny Green

Danny Green and Anthony Brown are similar players. Both defend the two wing spots and are terrific shooters. Similar size as well.
