Quick Season Review: The Maryland Terrapins had a strong season this past year, as they went 28-7 and lost in the third round of the NCAA Tournament to West Virginia. One of the primary reasons, was their leader Wells played consistent throughout the year. Wells recovered well from a broken wrist, that caused him to miss seven games. Wells scored in double digits in 23 of 28 games. His best game of the season, was arguably against Central Connecticut St, as he finished with 27 points.
Strengths: Physical two-guard with an NBA ready body. Terrific athlete (39-inch vertical). Improve jump shooter. Good defender that uses length and strength well. Good rebounder for position. Makes the right pass. Can finish in traffic with contact. Can defend multiple guard spots.
Weaknesses: Doesn’t have NBA range on his shot yet. Must improve ball-handling. An inch undersized despite being athletic and long. Despite making the right pass, he can still use improvement in area. Doesn’t have potential, as he already is developed fully. Age. Speed.
Where He Would Help Spurs?
Wells is an experienced guard that does whatever it takes to will. Wells will be a terrific role player if given the chance, he can finish around the basket and plays tough defense.
NBA Comparison: Elijah Millsap
Dez Wells like Elijah Milsap is good at finishing in traffic and has a high basketball IQ. Milsap has an extra two inches of size, but Wells is slightly more athletic.
