For the second time this week the San Antonio Spurs beat the Houston Rockets, thanks to a huge defensive play by Tim Duncan. After beating the Rockets 110-98 on Wednesday night the Spurs closed the Rockets lead on them in the division to half a game, now they’re up half a game with less than a week to play.

Duncan blocked James Harden as he attacked the basket with two seconds to play and the Rockets down one.

One can sense that this was going to be a difficult game for the Spurs as they began the game down 12-0. The Rockets outscored them 30-23 at the end of the first quarter. The Spurs outscored them 23-18 in the second quarter to pull within two at the half.

The Spurs outplayed the Rockets in the third quarter, where they outscored Houston 34-27 in a quarter that didn’t involve much defense.

The Spurs held a nine point lead early in the fourth quarter before a quick Rockets 7-0 surge to pull within a possession.

The key in the game was the turnover battle. The Rockets had 20 turnovers, while the Spurs had 15. The Rockets blew big opportunities to win the game as they made 32 of 53 free-throws.

Tim Duncan led the Spurs with 29 points and 10 rebounds, Kawhi Leonard added 18 points and 9 rebounds.

Josh Smith led the Rockets with 20 points, but he missed 14 of 26 free-throws.
