After missing nearly the entire first quarter of the NBA season, Tiago Splitter could be making his return to the floor soon for the San Antonio Spurs according to Dan McCarney of the San Antonio Express-News.

Although McCarney initially stated that Splitter could make his second appearance of the season on Tuesday against the Jazz in Utah, the Spurs ruled out the Brazilian big man.

Still, even the idea that Tiago Splitter could be ready to go soon is encouraging news. McCarney has stated that while Splitter was scratched for Tuesday’s game, he could play in San Antonio’s home game on Wednesday versus the New York Knicks.

The Spurs have been actually played surprisingly well on defense even with the absence of Splitter. San Antonio currently ranks in third in the league in defensive efficiency at 97.2 and in the top five for lowest opponent field goal percentage at 43.3%.

The Spurs have also ranked in the top three in blocks per game at 5.6.

Tiago Splitter will be looking for another solid season this year. He averaged 8.2 points and 6.2 rebounds last season with 50 starts, holding down the center position for the Spurs. Splitter also competed in the 2014 FIBA World Cup over the summer, putting up 7.6 points per game and 6.4 rebounds per game.

In his lone appearance this season, Splitter posted five points and four rebounds in 10 minutes.
