Spurs Lose Final Home Preseason Game Against Hawks

By Jay Desai

The San Antonio Spurs lost their final home preseason game against the Atlanta Hawks 117-107. The Spurs only trailed by five points at the half but a poor third quarter ultimately sealed San Antonio’s fate.

The result was not very surprising considering the San Antonio Spurs were without Kawhi Leonard, Patty Mills, and Tiago Splitter and also gave a lot of minutes to players who are normally at the end of the rotation.

The Spurs actually started out strong, grabbing an eight point lead after the first quarter. The rest of the game was disastrous for the Spurs, the worst being the second and third quarters where San Antonio was outscored 78-49 between the two quarters.

The Atlanta Hawks were led by Jeff Teague and Al Horford. Teague scored 21 points while Horford chipped in 15 points and eight rebounds for the victorious Hawks.

Although the Spurs lost against the Hawks, there were still some nice performances put out by some of the San Antonio roster. Tony Parker played well scoring 17 points along with seven assists while Cory Joseph put on a surprising performance, contributing 14 points and three assists.

The Spurs also shot the ball pretty well, shooting 53.2% from the field and 81.8% from the free throw line.

The game pushed the San Antonio Spurs to 2-4 while the Atlanta Hawks moved to 4-3.
