San Antonio Spurs News GM Survey Predicts San Antonio Spurs-Cavaliers Finals

By George Middleton

The San Antonio Spurs will win another title this season according to a survey done by NBA general managers. No, but seriously the GM Survey predicts the San Antonio Spurs meeting a new look Cleveland Cavaliers team in the Finals, with the Spurs winning it.

Interestingly enough, the results showed that the Cavaliers (70.4%) have a better shot than the Spurs (55.6%) to get to the finals, as those were seen as the percentages they had to win their conference championship. However, the GM’s give the Spurs a 46% chance of winning the title, compared to Cleveland’s 15%.

The results are not a surprise as the Clevleand Cavaliers went from a 33-49 record to an instant contender with the additions of LeBron James and Kevin Love. The Cavaliers didn’t lose much of what they had last year and kept Kyrie Irving and Dion Waiters, their two best players from last season. Of course they lost Andrew Wiggins, the first pick of the draft in a trade for Love. It appears that the East improved significantly, thanks to teams like Chicago, Cleveland, Washington, and Charlotte, but any team in the East that adds James alone will likely contend.

In the Western Conference it’s another story, the Spurs will look to fight off teams like Oklahoma City, Portland, Los Angeles (Clippers), Golden State, Dallas…. you get the point. Every team that made the playoffs last year looks as strong or stronger in the West and teams like Denver, Phoenix, and New Orleans are vastly improved.

The Spurs and Cavaliers have all the talent in the world and it’s realistic the two meet for the title. The Cavaliers have a much easier team to get there, as the survey reflected with the only real threat in their way possibly being Chicago. If the Spurs stay healthy and Kawhi Leonard plays like he did last year in the finals, the San Antonio Spurs can definitely win it all. Overall, it was a terrific prediction that won’t surprise many.
