San Antonio Spurs at Phoenix Suns Game Preview

By Jay Desai

The San Antonio Spurs make their first preseason appearance on US soil today with a game against the Phoenix Suns, following their European road trip as a part of the NBA’s Global Games initiative.

The Spurs head into their game against the Suns after splitting their first two games overseas, losing against German team Alba Berlin 94-93 at the horn and defeating Turkish team Fenerbahçe Ülker 96-90.

The win against Fenerbahçe Ülker, coming in San Antonio’s final European game, should serve as a nice confidence boost heading into the game against Phoenix.

The Spurs will have to rely more so on their role players, and even their assistant coaches, against the Suns as San Antonio will have most of their key players out in Phoenix.

Tony Parker and Tim Duncan played heavy minutes in the first two preseason games which means rest is due for the Spurs’ aging stars, especially after a long road trip.

Actually, Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, Kawhi Leonard, Patty Mills, Tiago Splitter, and even head coach Gregg Popovich will be out for the San Antonio Spurs game in the desert.

Leonard (pink eye), Mills (shoulder), and Splitter (leg) will all be sitting out due to injuries. Duncan, Ginobili, and Pop will be sitting out due to age and extended travel.
