2014 NBA Playoffs: Charles Barkley vs. Tim Duncan’s Girlfriend

While most journalists have had to forfeit writing about the 2014 NBA Playoffs as more and more teams’ 2013-14 season comes to an end, the San Antonio Spurs are still alive and kicking, to say the least.
In fact, it’s almost safe to say this series is all but wrapped up for the Spurs, even with Game 3 and 4 heading back to Oklahoma City.
As the Spurs are in the process of sweeping the Oklahoma City Thunder, there’s an outstanding rivalry budding beyond the basketball court.
From Ryan Glasspiegel of TheBigLead.com:
Charles Barkley, as you may have heard, is embroiled in a feud of sorts with the fans of San Antonio. “I don’t know if you can hear these San Antonio fans telling me that I suck,” Barkley said. “And I just want them to know they suck, too. I want them to know that I hear them, and I want them to know that I’m not just gonna take it. They suck, too.”
Consumed with pride, Chuck refuses to apologize for his continued remarks. From USAToday.com:
“Most of the people in San Antonio been great to me and they can take a joke. One advantage I always have is it’s easy to say words, but they won’t come to my face to say it because I’ll beat [them] down. Talk is never going to hurt me, but if they get too close, I’m-a beat ‘em like a drum.”
“If you don’t like me or the show, turn it off. And they want me to apologize. That’s not going to happen. That’s not gonna happen. You all can write letters to your momma, your daddy, your uncle. I’m going to have fun on television. You know that I’m joking around. But if y’all waiting on me to apologize, hell gonna freeze over.”
Vanessa Macias, Tim Duncan’s beautiful girlfriend in the GIF above leading the anti-Barkley charge, is from San Antonio, though Chuck thinks otherwise.
When Barkley was shown the footage of Macias, Chuck said, “That woman ain’t from here! They flew her in from Dallas! I guarantee you, those girls are not from San Antonio, they flew her in from Houston or Dallas.”
For complete non-basketball reasons, I want this series to go seven games; that way, we’d get to see the drama unfold between Duncan’s girl and Barkley, who will inevitably lose but never accept it. Barkley picked the Portland Trail Blazers to easily beat the Spurs, so it’s nice to see that Barkley’s predictions keep failing—the further the Spurs advance, the dumber he looks…or you can just look at the GIF below.
