The San Antonio Spurs beat the Dallas Mavericks in the first game of this NBA playoff series by a score of 90-85.
Despite trailing by 10 points with only eight minutes to go, the Spurs managed to fight back on the strength of a 17-1 run to clinch the win.
Tim Duncan scored a team-high 27 points in another team-high 38 minutes on 60 percent shooting from the field. Nine of those points came after Duncan had to leave the game to have his left knee seen to.
His return coincided with the Spurs’ run to finish the game. Tony Parker lead the charge early and ended up with 21 points and six assists.
Boris Diaw and Tiago Splitter combined to limit Dirk Nowitzki to 4-of-14 shooting from the field and 11 total points. The only high point for the Mavs was the play of Devin Harris off the bench. None of the Spurs could stay in front of Harris, and he scored an efficient (and team-high) 19 points to go along with 5 assists.
Game 2 is this Wednesday, 8:00 pm Eastern Time.
