The Milwaukee Bucks are on the verge of signing shooting guard Gary Neal, according to sources close to the process.
Sources told ESPN.com that a deal between the Bucks and Neal could be finalized as soon as Saturday after Neal’s agent, David Bauman, halted negotiations with the Atlanta Hawks.
The Bucks and Hawks emerged as the top two contenders to sign the sharpshooter after the San Antonio Spurs withdrew their qualifying offer to Neal earlier this month, making him an unrestricted free agent.
Neal was a key rotation player for San Antonio in the NBA Finals, busting out with a career playoff-high 24 points — including six 3-pointers — in the Spurs’ Game 3 rout of Miami. He averaged 9.5 points in 68 games last season.
Undrafted out of Towson, Neal has averaged 9.7 points over three seasons.
Neal had an up and down post-season, he had his best game in game three of the Finals against the Miami Heat where he scored 24 points on 9-of-17 from the field and 6-of-10 from three point land.
