After weeks of speculation that the 34-year-old Brand, who played with the Dallas Mavericks last season, was going to sign with the New York Knicks, it comes as a slight surprise to see him choose Atlanta. Brand was an amnesty casualty of the Philadelphia 76ers last summer, and drew interest from multiple teams (including the Spurs) before signing with Dallas.

In 72 games played, Brand averaged 7.2 points and 6.0 rebounds, averaging 21 minutes off the bench for the Mavs. It’s a great signing for the Hawks, who lost Josh Smith to the Detroit Pistons this off-season, but added Paul Millsap to replace him.
