The San Antonio Spurs have announced their roster for the 2013 Las Vegas Summer League, which takes part July 12th through the 22nd.
The Spurs play their first Summer League game on Friday, July 12th, versus the Charlotte Bobcats. Ime Udoka will be the head coach.
Some notable players on the Spurs Summer League roster:
Aron Baynes, Center, 6’10”, 260 poundsAs we all know, Baynes was signed mid-season and was back and forth between San Antonio and the D-League’s Austin Toros. The 26-year-old center started in Game 4 of the first round in the playoffs versus the Los Angeles Lakers.
Nando De Colo, Guard, 6’5″, 190 poundsThe Spurs 2nd round pick in the 2009 NBA Draft is starting his second year in the NBA, and playing in his first summer league, as he was preparing for the Olympics with the French team last year. “Mini Manu” was also one of the Spurs players making the trip to Austin during the season, and is in the final year of his 2-year deal with San Antonio.
Marcus Denmon, Guard, 6’3″, 185 poundsThe Mizzou Monster and Spurs 2012 2nd round draft pick is playing in his second Vegas Summer League. Last year he averaged 5.4 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.6 assists in the summer session, and most recently played in France for Elan Chalon.
Cory Joseph, Guard, 6’3″, 185 poundsCoJo was the Spurs 1st round pick in 2011 and seemed to have a small breakthrough with San Antonio this year. The former Longhorn played in 28 games this season, averaging 4.5 points and 1.9 rebounds and assists.
Dexter Pittman, Center, 6’11”, 285 poundsAnother former Longhorn, the massive Pittman has spent most of his NBA career with the Miami Heat, after being picked in the 2nd round of the 2010 NBA Draft. The 2012 NBA Champion was traded by the Heat to the Grizzlies at last season’s deadline, and was recently waived by Memphis.
Ryan Richards, Forward/Center, 7’0″, 230 poundsThe big English center has been a curious case since the Spurs picked him with the 49th pick in the 2010 NBA Draft. Richards is still only 22 years old and will be playing in his second straight Vegas Summer League.
DeShaun Thomas, Forward, 6’7″, 225 poundsWith the 58th pick in the 2013 NBA Draft, the Spurs drafted former McDonald’s All-American and First Team All-Big Ten player, DeShaun Thomas. The former Ohio State Buckeye has obviously given the Spurs his phone number since being drafted.
Alexis Wangmene, Forward, 6’7″, 241 poundsThe last of the former Longhorns on this roster, Wangmene has spent his post-collegiate career with the Austin Toros, after going undrafted.
