Few months back, Kawhi Leonard was invited to Team USA’s training camp in Las Vegas next month. It’s starting to sound as if Leonard may in fact miss the training camp and a chance to play for Team USA.

Through-out this season, he has been suffering and battling a sore left knee, which essentially started at the beginning of the season (this is the same knee that has been giving him issues since his collegiate days).  Given that the Spurs played 100+ games this season, and with Leonard being young and to risk any further damage, he may have to sit and rest.  The off-season will be quick for the San Antonio Spurs and Leonard.

Per Spurs Head Coach Gregg Popovich:

I need to talk to Kawhi and the doctors about that before we make a decision,” Popovich said. “It’s obviously an honor to be involved with USA Basketball in any way, shape or form. Kawhi is thrilled by the selection. But we need to talk to the doctors and make sure he’s able to do it.”

What Leonard officially has is tendinitis in his knee, it is referred to as “jumpers knee”.  This injury has caused him to miss twenty games this past NBA season.  His healthy truly is the concern for San Antonio as he has a long career ahead of him.
