Though the San Antonio Spurs are preparing for their fifth trip to the NBA Finals, behind the scenes they are still busy preparing for the upcoming draft. As we told you on Wednesday, James Sutherland, from Syracuse will be working out for the Spurs in the coming weeks. We are now finding out that the San Antonio Spurs have brought in another wing in for a workout, Michigan’s Tim Hardaway Jr.
M-Live.com’s Nick Baumgardner reported earlier this month that the Spurs did in fact interview Tim Hardaway Jr. at the Chicago Draft Combine and then brought him in the week after for a workout. If you had a chance to watch Hardaway Jr. during this past NCAA Tournament, you then know that this kid can flat out shoo the rock. He stands at 6’6″ and is very athletic.
Per Project Spurs, According to ESPN’s Chad Ford, the Michigan two guard lit up the combine and as a result is looking more and more like a first round pick as opposed to a mid-late second round pick he was projected as a month ago. He’s currently ranked number 32 on Ford’s Big Board and 31 on DraftExpress’.
Hardaway Jr. is a list of players that the Spurs have worked out during this month. Spurs have worked out Reggie Bullock from North Carolina, James Sutherland and have interviewed Glen Rice Jr at the combine in Chicago. Drafting any of these guys would be good as it would provide a good back-up to Kawhi Leonard, which the Spurs definitely need. Great strategy by San Antonio. We will see which way they go come playoff time.
We at Air Alamo will continue to bring you news about possible prospects as soon as we get them.
