According to Syracuse.Com, 6’8″ forward James Sutherland has himself a jam-packed NBA workout schedule that will include working out with the San Antonio Spurs.  On Thursday (May 23rd), Southerland’s agent, Mark Bartelstein of Chicago-based Priority Sports, said Southerland already had eight more visits with NBA teams scheduled.

Per his agent, he has scheduled workouts with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Houston Rockets, San Antonio Spurs, Los Angeles Clippers, Detroit Pistons, Indiana Pacers, Washington Wizards, and the Utah Jazz over these next few weeks.

“He’s visiting a bunch of teams,” Bartelstein said. “He’s going to be very, very busy.”

Standing 6-8 with good length and a narrow frame,James Southerland is a decent overall athlete, being relatively mobile, though not one to blow you away with quickness or explosiveness. His style of play is one that doesn’t rely heavily on athleticism on the offensive end of the court.

Watching this years NCAA Tournament you can tell Southerland is predominantly a three-point shooting specialist, he also shows flashes of a mid-range game, being comfortable spotting up or coming off screens for spot-up jumpers from really anywhere on the floor, from free-throw line extended to even the mid post. While this probably isn’t something that could develop into a staple for him, it does give him some versatility and provides offenses with a safety valve option late in the shot clock.
