Though the fallout of resting Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker resulted in a hefty $250,000 fine, the fifth largest in NBA history, the additional night of rest paid off in the 99-95 overtime victory over the Memphis Grizzlies.

Duncan and Parker combined for 57 points. Ginobili’s 10th and final points came on a pivotal corner 3-pointer that knotted the game at 87 with 57.9 seconds remaining. He added six steals, many of which led to 22 fastbreak points.

The win gives San Antonio the early head-to-head tiebreaker over the top-seeded Grizzlies and the validation of a shrewd strategy that caught the league by storm.
