De Leon: Austin Toros acquire center Rick Jackson

As the Austin Toros, the defending NBA Developmental League champions, prepare for their first game of the regular season against the Texas Legends, they will be without University of Memphis forward Wesley Witherspoon.
Per the NBA D-League’s official website:
The Austin Toros today announced they have traded Wesley Witherspoon for forward/center Rick Jackson. The three team trade sent Witherspoon to the RGV Vipers, who traded their third round pick in the 2013 NBA D-League draft to the Santa Cruz Warriors, who agreed to send Jackson to the Toros. Jackson is expected to join the Toros on the road for Wednesday’s season opener against the Texas Legends.
According to the report, Jackson averaged nine points and 5.5 rebounds in 21 games in France last year. Michael A. De Leon of Project Spurs adds that Jackson rejected the Spurs’ previous advances after he went undrafted in the 2011 NBA Draft.
This news is a bit surprising given Witherspoon’s short stint of success this preseason. Many believed Witherspoon had some potential, even mentioning his name as a possible call up following the injuries to Kawhi Leonard and Stephen Jackson.
Just as curiously, as De Leon points out, is the exclusion of Alabama’s JaMychal Green. Green was signed and released just days before the regular season, theoretically to ensure his roster spot in Austin.
