San Antonio Spurs shooting guard Manu Ginobili will not travel with the team for the season opener against the New Orleans Hornets.

According to Mike Monroe of the San Antonio Express-News, Ginobili, who missed the final exhibition against the Washington Wizards with back spasms, will be reassessed when the Spurs return to San Antonio the following day.

Ginobili, whose shot creation bolsters the Spurs’ second unit, missed 32 games last season. The 10-year veteran has missed an average of 13.7 games with a rash of injuries. In the meantime, San Antonio will rely heavily on Danny Green and Kawhi Leonard.

It’s premature but it is certainly disconcerting given his previous injury history.
